FRANCO MAGGIO ORMEZOWSKI, cello:
Franco Maggio Ormezowski owes his first musical steps to his Polish mother. He completed the certificate for Cello with full marks and honours at the Musical Institute "Luigi Boccherini" in Lucca. Following this, he continued his development together with Gaspar Cassadò and Andrè Navarra at the Music School Chigiana in Siena. At the age of 14, he won first prize in the National Musical Contest of Rome at the Music School of "Santa Cecilia". He achieved further renown at the International contests of Geneva in 1957 and Vienna in 1959.
Ormezowski has performed in almost all of the countries of Europe, Middle East and North Africa, in addition to the U.S.A and South America, playing with Italian, German, Swiss, Danish, Greek, Polish, Yugoslavian and Bulgarian orchestras. In addition to this, he has attended the Festivals of Spoleto, Sorrento, Beirut, and Plovdiv, the music festival of Lucca and the Spanish celebration for the 150th anniversary of Luigi Boccherini's death.
He has played alongside some of the greatest conductors including Wolfgang Sawallisch, Leonard Bernstein, Lawrence Foster, Franco Caracciolo, Ferruccio Scaglia and Aldo Ceccato.
