When the five guys from Kasalla are on stage, they are guaranteed to create a good atmosphere. The Cologne band sings in dialect in the tradition of carnival and now fills ever larger halls and stadiums.
In 2011, Flo Peil, guitarist and songwriter, and singer Bastian Campmann founded the band Kasalla. They found the right band members in René Schwiers, Nils Plum and Sebi Wagner, who from then on performed Cologne songs with them, ensuring exuberant merriment and an excellent mood among their audience.
The band played their first concerts in their founding year and released their first album at the beginning of 2012. Even this first album received consistently positive reviews. The Kölner Stadtanzeiger described the record as "the best Cologne music that has been put on a CD in years". The single "Pirate" hit like a bomb and was one of the most frequently played songs in the 2011/2012 carnival season.
The much-praised single also wins Radio Cologne's "Top Jeck" competition, is voted "Best Cologne Song" by the Red Sparks and is chosen by the sing-along initiative "Loss mer singe" as the most popular hit of the carnival season. The song reached 56th place in the German single charts. In 2016 Kasalla re-recorded the successful single with Cologne comedy queen Carolin Kebekus. The band keeps finding new ways to thrill the audience and even ventures into Cologne rap. This is how Kasalla's fan base grows from year to year.
Live performances by Kasalla
The band itself works under the motto "Everything can - Kölsch must", which gives a good impression of the spirit of the quintet. The term "Kasalla" also comes from the Kölsch language, of course, and translates as trouble or ruckus - which in this case is to be understood with a wink, after all, the band stands above all for Rhenish cheerfulness and party atmosphere. Their love of carnival and a large portion of humour meet skilful songwriting in Cologne dialect.
Tickets for Kasalla have been in great demand since the beginning of the band's history. At the Tanzbrunnen in Cologne, the band thrilled thousands of guests, and through their own tour of Germany and as support for bands such as Höhner, Brings or Silbermond, the band is also becoming increasingly well-known beyond the Rhineland. The popularity of the Cologne-based Mundart band rises so rapidly that in September 2016 the band celebrates its fifth anniversary at the sold-out LANXESS arena in Cologne - twice, in front of a total of 26,000 spectators.
