Every July, Locarno is transformed into what is arguably Switzerland's most beautiful concert arena. The Moon and Stars Festival uses the historic Piazza Grande as a spectacular backdrop. Framed by pastel-coloured patrician houses, an urban open-air arena is created here that retains a rare intimacy despite its capacity of around 12,000 visitors.
World class in the piazza
The musical profile consistently focuses on established world-class acts. Year after year, the line-up reads like a «who's who» of pop and rock history: from international greats such as Sting, Coldplay and Lenny Kravitz to Italian superstars such as Eros Ramazzotti and Zucchero. The balmy Ticino summer nights and the excellent acoustics between the old walls make every performance a special experience.
But the festival offers more than just the main stage. The «Food & Music Street» connects the piazza with nearby Lake Maggiore. This freely accessible area with numerous food trucks, bars and the «Piazza Piccola» stage for up-and-coming talent is the meeting place for music fans and connoisseurs. Here, the concert experience merges with the typical Ticino «dolce vita».
Picturesque setting
Moon and Stars stands for comfortable music enjoyment in a picturesque architectural setting. It is the ideal place for anyone who wants to combine great live music with a relaxed holiday atmosphere.
