Bülent Ceylan (40) is one of Germany's most successful comedians. His surname translates as "young deer" ,
so it makes double sensethat the comedy star with a Turkish father and German mother received the coveted Bambi television award in November.
We met Bülent in Zurich and spoke to him about his new stage program "Kronk", which he is bringing to Switzerland in January.
Hello Bülent, if you were a doctor: What diagnosis would you give our world?
To put it in a nutshell with the title of my new program: Everything is "kronk"! Yes, the world is kind of crazy. Take the internet, for example, and Facebook in particular. What did we used to do in our free time? Did we run to the letterbox 20 or 30 times a day to see if there was anything in there? No, not really.
What exactly is "Kronk" about?
I make fun of all the diseases you know. Facebook addiction, internet addiction, the fitness or esoteric craze. But I also talk about topics that concern me personally as Bülent - such as Nazis and terrorists. The world doesn't need them. But ultimately it's a program to laugh at. I want people to distract themselves from everyday life.
What do you find particularly funny about our times?
That a comedian has become president in America. On the other hand, since Donald Trump was elected, I suddenly find Angela Merkel likeable, which is also "kronk".
You received the German television award Bambi in the comedy category in November. What does this award mean to you?
It's a great prize and a great honor after so many years. My name is actually Bülent Bambi now.
What are your plans for the new year?
My new film "Verpiss dich, Schneewittchen" is coming to cinemas, I'm on tour with "Kronk", and I'm also making a comeback at the end of January with the "Bülent Ceylan Show". And RTL is planning an evening show with me. So no boredom!
