He brought reggaeton from the streets of Puerto Rico to stadiums around the world. On June 24, 2027, Don Omar will stop in Zurich as part of his “The Last King World Tour.” It could be the last chance to see the “Rey del Reggaetón” live in Switzerland.
Anyone who went to a Latino party in the 2000s knows his voice. “Dale Don Dale,” “Pobre Diabla,” “Danza Kuduro”: Don Omar has written hits that still fill every dance floor to this day. Now the Puerto Rican artist has announced “The Last King World Tour.” The name leaves little room for interpretation—it sounds like a farewell. But Don Omar leaves it open as to whether it’s final.
William Omar Landrón, born in 1978 in Santurce (San Juan), Puerto Rico, served as a preacher in church as a young man. Then came reggaeton. In 2003, he released his debut album, “The Last Don,” followed three years later by “King of Kings”: The album became the first reggaeton album to reach the Top Ten of the Billboard 200 and cemented Don Omar’s status as a major figure in the genre alongside Daddy Yankee.
In 2010, he scored a massive hit with “Danza Kuduro.” The song, featuring French-Portuguese singer Lucenzo, played during the end credits of “Fast Five,” has over a billion views on YouTube, and remains his best-known track to this day. Movie-goers also know Don Omar as an actor: In the “Fast & Furious” series, he plays the street racer Rico Santos.
In 2024, Don Omar made a spectacular comeback after health setbacks: He went public with a cancer diagnosis, gave the all-clear shortly thereafter, and was back on stage just a few weeks later. “The Last King World Tour” kicks off in the U.S. in September 2026, followed by Europe in 2027. In Zurich, he’ll bring more than two decades of reggaeton history with him: the early perreo anthems, the big ballads, and the stadium choruses.
Don Omar has so far left open whether this farewell is final. One thing is certain: When the first beats of “Danza Kuduro” rip through the Hallenstadion on Thursday, June 24, 2027, no one will want to be at home.
