The music year 2025 is slowly drawing to a close. Music fans were once again able to celebrate numerous new releases this year. The event. editorial team has compiled their favorite songs of 2025 and packed them into two articles. Here is the first part including the videos for the songs. Have fun listening!

Nine Inch Nails: «As Alive As You Need Me To Be» is the soundtrack to my 2025. Dark, angry, uncompromising.

Nine Inch Nails have saved Tron. Like Daft Punk once did with «Legacy», Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have breathed new life into the franchise with «Ares». The lead track «As Alive As You Need Me To Be» is a fist-pump from the 80s, driven by EBM beats and synthesizers that sound like someone has a huge rage in their belly. And it had to come out. Rolling Stone called the song «black gold». For me, it's an echo from my adolescence. The unbridled anger of Reznor, which sounds the same here as on «The Downward Spiral». My Tron wish for the future: more music, less movie. Seriously.

Not a song, but a podcast has grown on me in 2025: Doppelmaushälfte! Calm, clever, important - and wonderfully funny.

Barbie Breakout and Simon Dömer open up a space in which development becomes audible. We accompany Barbie on a journey into her past: open, reflective, without pathos. And we experience Simon, who has been hiding for a long time, often read hetero, and is now not only rediscovering Berlin's queer nightlife, but is also coming to terms with his identity and spreading his wings.

«Old Phone» by Ed Sheeran is my song for 2025 . It reminds me that the past is sometimes better left in the past.

The exceptional British artist performed two concerts at the Letzigrund Stadium in 2025. Of course, Ed also had songs from his latest album «Play» in his luggage. In addition to loud and fast numbers, it also contains quieter songs. One of them is my song of the year 2025: «Old Phone». Without any superfluous trappings, Ed Sheeran tells the story of how he finds his old cell phone in a stowed-away box – including conversations, text messages and forgotten contacts from the past. He comes to the conclusion that the cell phone and the memories associated with it belong where they came from. And reminds us to accept the past in order to appreciate the present.
