In Flames and Trivium share more than just modern metal intensity. Both bands place guitar melodies at the heart of their music. On April 14, 2027, their different approaches will come together at Bernexpo Bern in Switzerland. This will be a meeting of two generations with many musical similarities.
In Flames formed in 1990 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The band played a pivotal role in shaping melodic death metal. Early albums like «Whoracle» combined aggressive riffs with striking guitar harmonies.
Later, the band significantly broadened its sound. Clear choruses and electronic elements took on a greater role. Alternative metal influences increasingly complemented the band’s earlier death metal roots.
Anders Fridén is the singer and frontman of In Flames. His voice has had a significant impact on the band’s evolution. Heavy passages regularly alternate with clearer vocal lines.
Trivium—founded in 1999—hails from Orlando, Florida. Their breakthrough came in 2005 with the album «Ascendancy». At the time, metalcore and thrash formed the foundation of their sound.
Later, progressive elements and classic heavy metal were incorporated. Complex rhythms, catchy choruses, and powerful guitar solos also play a key role.
Matt Heafy sings and plays guitar for Trivium. He combines clean vocals with shouts and harsh passages. As a result, the band’s sound remains very distinctive despite stylistic shifts.
In Flames and Trivium have been touring together for years. As early as 2011, they spent several weeks touring Europe together with Ghost.
At the time, Matt Heafy described In Flames as a major influence. In particular, the melodic guitar work left a lasting impression on Trivium. This connection is still evident in their music today.
