Loreena McKennitt is coming to Switzerland for two concerts in 2027. She will be playing at The Hall Zurich on March 24 and at the Théâtre de Beaulieu in Lausanne on March 25. Her music combines Celtic roots with global influences. Yet she remains an independent voice in the folk world.
Loreena McKennitt is one of the most striking figures in modern folk music. The Canadian singer, harpist and composer has been working on her very own sound for decades. Her songs rarely follow the rules of classic pop music. They are more like musical journeys through history, literature and memory.
The starting point often lies in Celtic melodies. But McKennitt never sticks to pure tradition. She combines Celtic roots with Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Asian influences. This creates a sound that seems familiar and at the same time takes you far away. It is precisely this tension that characterizes many of her best-known pieces.
McKennitt's work lives strongly from language and atmosphere. She sets poems to music, takes up legends and works with historical motifs. She is less interested in romantic retrospection. Instead, her music explores origins, wanderings and cultural connections.
Songs such as "The Mystic's Dream", "The Mummers' Dance" and "Marco Polo" demonstrate this approach particularly clearly. Harp, accordion, strings and percussion create dense soundscapes. Her voice, which manages without grand gestures, stands above it all. She leads calmly through long arcs of tension and subtle changes of mood.
On March 24, Loreena McKennitt will be playing at The Hall Zurich and on March 25 at the Théâtre de Beaulieu in Lausanne. The concerts will cover her broad repertoire of folk, world music and song poetry. The focus will be on the mixture that has characterized her work for years: historical curiosity, musical openness and an unmistakable voice.
Tickets for her two concerts in Switzerland will be available to Live Club members from May 28. Tickets go on sale to the general public on May 29.
