Maffay and Oerding Bring Nashville to Zurich

07/10/2026 written by Christoph Soltmannowski

Peter Maffay retired from major tours in 2024. Now he’s back on stage, alongside Johannes Oerding. On May 4, 2027, the two will perform their only Swiss concert at the Hallenstadion in Zurich.

The announcement came in June. “Johannes and I have kept quiet for a long time. But now we’re letting the cat out of the bag,” Peter Maffay wrote on his website. The cat’s name is “Nashville”—it’s a collaborative album that has been available in stores since October 2, 2026. Even before its release, 50,000 album bundles had already sold out.

The tour is selling just as well. According to the promoter, more than 120,000 tickets have been sold for the twelve arena concerts in Germany. Hamburg, Berlin, Hanover, Leipzig, and Frankfurt are sold out. Due to high demand, Zurich has now been added to the itinerary. The Hallenstadion is the 13th and final arena date and the only stop in Switzerland.

Friends for Years

Maffay is 77. With the “We Love Rock ’n’ Roll” tour in 2024, he bid farewell to major tours. Johannes Oerding accompanied him at the time. The two have been friends for years. They sang the duet “Wenn wir uns wiedersehen.” For his album “Hotel,” Oerding re-recorded the Maffay classic “Eiszeit” together with Maffay as a Version 2.0. A joint album was never on the agenda. Over time, the rocker and the 44-year-old pop singer realized they share the same roots: rock ’n’ roll, rhythm and blues, and country rock. Maffay sums it up this way: “Friendship turns into music; mutual respect turns into a shared sound.”

Eleven songs in five days

They recorded at Blackbird Studio in Nashville, the city of country music and classic songwriting. They brought musicians into the studio who had grown up with this music. Everything was played live. After five days, they had eleven songs in the can. Both sing on every track. The songs are titled “Weiter,” “Sisyphos,” “Kneipen-Skiffle,” and “Daniela Bar.” The singles “Ein Leben lang ist nicht lang” and “Dir gehört die Welt” were released in advance. The shortest track, “An einer Kreuzung,” lasts 44 seconds.

The music website country.de hears country, rock, blues, and skiffle on the album. Its verdict: “‘Nashville’ lives up to its name!”

Record-holder Meets Stadium-Filler

Maffay has 21 number-one albums on the German charts—a record. He’s also sold over 50 million records across more than five decades. Oerding brings three number-one albums and over a million records sold to the table. A crowd of 45,000 people attended his “home game” at Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion. It was there that the two announced their collaboration.

Advance ticket sales begin Friday

The concert in Zurich will take place on Tuesday, May 4, 2027, at 8 p.m. The venue is seated. Tickets cost between 67 and 127 francs. Advance ticket sales begin on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 11 a.m.
