Fancy a different kind of circus? Then you can look forward to Circus Monti's new tour: After the brilliant anniversary in 2024, the Montis are once again conjuring up a spectacle on stage - this time in the middle of a mysterious Brockenhaus, where dust and treasures await stories.
The idea behind "Bric Brac" could hardly be more charming: Memories are hidden among old mirrors, yellowing pictures and fancy boots. The Brockenhaus becomes a living stage on which every object is given a new story. Acrobats and artists tickle new brilliance out of favorite items for sale - a wild homage to fantasy and daydreams, which has always been the trademark of Circus Monti.
As is usual with Monti, the 12 artists will once again delight audiences in two ways this year: firstly, they will showcase their skills in disciplines such as unicycling, juggling, handstands, partner acrobatics, aerial acrobatics, straps, Chinese pole and comedy. They also slip into different roles and play characters. As a joint ensemble, they skillfully combine the individual acts into a whole.
Andreas Manz and Bernard Stöckli from Compagnia Due are once again at the helm for the direction and creative concept - they know their way around cheeky theater, fine comedy and wonderfully crazy slapstick. Also on board: Vincent Jutras (choreography), Lukas Stäger (music), Barbara Tschumi (costumes) and Jasper Baan Hofmann (lighting design). A team as international and open as Circus Monti itself.
The big "Bric Brac" tour starts on August 8 in Wohlen AG, followed by Windisch, Basel, Aarau, Wettingen, Winterthur, Lucerne, Bern, Solothurn - and finally Zurich.
Circus Monti was founded in 1985 in Wohlen (Canton Aargau) by Guido and Hildegard Muntwyler as a family business and has been part of the Swiss cultural landscape ever since - thanks to its skillful combination of classical circus, theater and cabaret - always characterized by high artistic quality and poetic staging. Today, his son Johannes Muntwyler manages the company, which employs around 65 people during its tours.
Over time, Circus Monti has developed into a versatile company alongside its traditional circus operations: Today, the offer also includes Monti's Variété in the winter months, a tent rental service that is in demand throughout Europe and, most recently, Monti's cultural days during the early summer in Wohlen AG.
Monti is the first and so far only circus to have been awarded the prestigious Prix Walo twice (1998 and 2000). The company also received the KTV ATP Innovation Award in 2013 and the Swiss Prize for the Performing Arts from the Federal Office of Culture in 2023 - proof of its constant innovative spirit.
Another unique selling point: since 2011, Monti has managed without any animals in the circus ring, focusing instead on poetic, human and innovative performances. This makes Circus Monti an institution that is constantly setting new trends and developing the circus genre in a contemporary way.
With this background, the "Bric Brac" program takes up the Monti tradition: innovative, cosmopolitan, family-run - and always full of fantasy and poetry.
