From July 2026, the lake stage in Thun will become Rydell High. Grease brings leather jackets, petticoats and teenage drama to Lake Thun.
The musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey premiered in 1971 and became a global pop culture phenomenon with the film adaptation starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. Songs such as "Summer Nights", "Greased Lightnin'" and "You're the One That I Want" are still among the best-known musical hits of all time. The sound mixes rock'n'roll, doo-wop and high school nostalgia - direct, loud and full of tempo.
Danny Zuko and Sandy Dumbrowski take center stage. They are joined by the T-Birds, the Pink Ladies and a school year full of flirting, peer pressure and rebellion. Grease tells the story of youthful insecurity, first big feelings and the attempt to belong somewhere. This is precisely why the musical still works decades later.
Grease is perfect for the 2026 Lake Thun Festival: large ensemble scenes, fast-paced dialog and a soundtrack that immediately conjures up images. The open stage right by the water further enhances the American summer feeling and gives the musical its own dynamic.
The Lake Thun Festival will be showing Grease from 8 July to 22 August 2026, and audiences can look forward to a new production with plenty of live energy, dancing and speed. Between high school romance and rock'n'roll, Grease unfolds precisely the mixture that has united generations for decades.
