It's been 25 years since Oliver Höner and Reto Caviezel started Art on Ice. They tell us what still motivates them today - and what their plans are for the future.
event.: Would you have expected this success 25 years ago?
Reto Caviezel : We would never have dreamed that after 25 years we would be welcoming around 100,000 spectators in Switzerland every year and that the show would also be popular in many countries outside of Switzerland.
Oliver Höner: It has also shown that mixing local and international stars works. Nothing is "off the peg".
What have been the greatest and most enjoyable moments for you personally in 25 years of Art on Ice?
Caviezel: There are so many that it would go beyond the scope of this article. But they certainly include the very first shows in Zurich's Hallenstadion.
Is it still as much fun as it was in the beginning?
Höner: More and more. There is an incredible amount of quality, talent and creativity in the show, which I am able to bring together to form a unit.
What is the biggest challenge today?
Caviezel: On the one hand, constantly developing the show. On the other hand, securing the financing year after year. Production costs have increased more than tenfold in 25 years.
Höner: The challenge is also our goal: to remain innovative.
What are the plans for the future?
Caviezel: The journey is far from over. Art on Ice is already not just an evening experience, but a show that accompanies the visitor for a long time before and after the actual event visit. We will continue along this path.
