Chaka Khan: "Age has never played a role for me"

11/01/2017 written by Katja Richard
Together with James Morrison, Chaka Khan forms the musical supporting program for this year's edition of Art on Ice. She is looking forward to the ice skating show, she says in an interview.

You are performing at Art on Ice. Is this your first time singing on the ice?
Yes, I'm looking forward to performing with other artists and creatives. And it's something special for me to be in Switzerland, I love this country.

Have you been here often?
Yes, once I even spent almost a year in Montreux to record a CD. The landscape here is like something out of a picture book. No other country in the world achieves such perfection as Switzerland. You can see that in the people, they are content and happy.

How are things in the USA with the new president?
I don't get carried away by emotions. I believe that something new can emerge from chaos. You have to let things take their course and wait and see what develops.

You were politically active in your younger years, what is it like today?
I'm still involved, just not in the same way as back then. We were much more radical in the 70s - I see things differently today.

You look great for your age, how do you do it?
Thank you, it's all a gift from God. I've only used soap and water in my life, I probably have good genes. I'm very grateful for that. Also that I can still perform.

Why are you still on stage at all?
Age has never played a role for me. I always feel the same age, nothing has changed. Of course there are better and worse days. I feel all the traveling with the time differences more than I used to, but apart from that I'm doing very well.
