From November 8, the musical "Chicago" will be performed at Theater 11 in Zurich. We spoke to the leading actress about her role, self-confident women and Switzerland.
You play the leading role, the murderess Roxie Hart, in the musical "Chicago". Why is this play from 1926 still so popular today?
I think it was very ahead of its time. It's about reality and fame, and today we know a lot of that from all the reality shows on TV. It's a sophisticated piece with incredible choreography. I don't think it's a surprise that it's lasted so long.
Hollywood star Renée Zellweger played Roxie Hart in the film adaptation of the musical. What does it mean to you to play Roxie?
I've been waiting twenty years for this role. It's a real dream to play her! I love every minute of it.
How did you prepare for the role?
We had four weeks of rehearsals and I watched the original black and white movie with Ginger Rogers.
Roxie gets into trouble with the law. Has that ever happened to you?
Fortunately not! I've never had any problems like that (laughs).
As Roxie Hart, you wear sexy costumes. What advice do you have for women who want to feel sexy in their own skin?
I love the costumes, it's really great to be an actress if you love dressing up. My advice: you are beautiful just as you are!
You are coming to Zurich with "Chicago". What connection do you have to Switzerland?
I went skiing in Switzerland and loved it. I've been to Zurich before with another show: I was in "Mamma Mia" a few years ago and fell in love with Zurich. I'm really looking forward to coming back.
