Cirque du Soleil: The "Ovo" insects take over Zurich

05/10/2017 written by Mario von Ow und Michel Imhof
This week, the Cirque du Soleil production "Ovo" is visiting the Hallenstadion Zurich. While rehearsals for the European premiere are taking place in the Hallenstadion, three of the show's characters are exploring Zurich's city center. We accompanied and visited the artists.

Three insects from "Ovo", the Cirque du Soleil show that is currently making a stop at the Hallenstadion Zurich, made their way from the opera house to Paradeplatz and interacted with the unknowing pedestrians. Even passengers on the VBZ streetcars were able to enjoy the extraordinary performance of the three figures.

At the same time, the final touches were being made in the Hallenstadion: everything had to be just right for today's European premiere - the music, the movements and the costumes. The "Ovo" production has over 10,000 costume pieces with it; all the material, including the stage, was brought to Europe on a ship.

The production is playing at the Hallenstadion Zurich until Sunday. Jan Dutler from Switzerland, who plays one of the three main characters, is also taking part. The performances are a highlight for him: "I'm not staying in a hotel with the whole crew, but can sleep with my family. That's really cool," he tells us on the sidelines of rehearsals.

"Ovo" is touring Europe for the first time. The show has previously been seen in North and Central America, Asia and Australia. The production is still touring in Zurich until Sunday and can be seen in Geneva next week.
