Cirque Du Soleil - Toruk: The colorful time before "Avatar"

04/06/2019 written by Ticketcorner
A fantasy world that will be familiar to many: Cirque du Soleil's latest masterpiece is inspired by James Cameron's hit film "Avatar". We have already seen the show - and were also backstage.

The eyes of the various acrobats and other artists, shining with excitement and passion, immediately catch the eye. The colors and sizes of the stage props and costumes also envelop the entire backstage area in a cosmic atmosphere. Cirque du Soleil's latest program "Toruk - The First Flight" enchants the audience and transports them for a few minutes into the world of the Na'vi people. Parts of James Cameron's film "Avatar" are cleverly combined with newly created stories about the Na'vi people. All of this is narrated by top-class artists, puppet specialists, light artists and many more.

Art Director Dawn Wilson sees the current show as a completely new definition of circus. "The new program definitely stands out from the previous ones. It's also the first time for me that so many new disciplines and techniques have been incorporated. Cirque du Soleil has taken itself to a new level and I'm delighted to be a part of it."

Performers Nick Beyeler and Elia Aymo are looking forward to their "home game" in Switzerland

Not only the lighting constellations and stage installations, but also the acrobats who have been recruited will bring many new performances. Cirque du Soleil has been able to bring together many talented acrobats who excel in disciplines such as kiting and puppetry. Almost all the artists also amaze with their acrobatic performances. Their dialogues in the Na'vi language are transmitted live via microphones, so acting skills are also required.

There are also some Swiss artists among the performers. Nick Beyeler, aerial artist, acrobat and winner of the 2015 Swiss Award, is also part of the talented "Toruk" crew. After passing the audition, he was accepted into the show. "I really like my part in Cirque du Soleil. Rotating between two roles gives me the opportunity to bring different skills and emotions to the stage. I love identifying with the characters during the show and am particularly looking forward to our 101st show in Zurich." Elia Aymon is also from Switzerland. She also plays one of the main characters. "What do I love most? My performance on the vertical scarf. I float in the middle of the stage above bright flowers and completely immerse myself in my act."

All in all, an amazing and unforgettable performance by the entire Cirque du Soleil crew. A completely new interpretation of circus and the traditional "Avatar". Two hours of great acrobatic and artistic performances. As a spectator, you are completely immersed in the world of the Na'vi and lose touch with reality - falling in love with Avatar. A show that will be remembered for a long time.
