Gymrock: Stefanie Heinzmann turns on the gymnastics show audience

15/02/2017 written by Mohan Mani
What began in 2010 with the 150th anniversary of the Zurich Gymnastics Association has blossomed into a popular show combination of art and sport under the name Gymrock. This year with acts such as Stefanie Heinzmann and folk singer Kunz.

"I actually didn't know Gymrock before. But when I was asked, I had a look at it and thought it was a great thing," says Stefanie Heinzmann in the Ticketcorner interview about the gym show Gymrock. She also likes fitness in her private life: "Last year, however, I found lots of excuses not to train. But I realized that I was missing something. So I started fighting my inner bastard again."

A highly athletic sport

Nowadays, the term gymnastics is considered old-fashioned in many places and is reminiscent of school days long gone. Nevertheless, Katharina Egli, Program & Choreography Manager, doesn't see the event as just old wine in new bottles: "Our gymnasts represent Switzerland very successfully and showcase a highly athletic sport. Gymnasts and apparatus gymnasts also deliver performances that can hold their own against artistic acts. In addition, influences from other sports do not stop at gymnastics, such as various dance styles or parcours. The Gymrock show will feature contemporary performances presented by top clubs and amateur sports groups."

Matching show acts

And how do the organizers select their show acts? - "As a Swiss soul and rock goddess, Stefanie Heinzmann not only fits the name of Gymrock, but also as a person," continues Egli enthusiastically. "With her power and passion for music and art, she supports our groups with a creative show. Marc Haller alias Erwin from Switzerland will provide the humor. Sandee, Fabienne Louves, the Biel funpunkers QL and the Lucerne dialect folk singer Kunz will round off the program musically."

Fully rehearsed show

According to Egli, you can dance to any music: "The reasons for making the right choice can be the rhythm, the melody, but also the message of a song. And let's not forget the feeling and groove of a song, which influence the choreography." Heinzmann is also looking forward to singing not solo, but as part of a rehearsed show: "Of course, I'm a bit more flexible with my own shows. But a collaboration like this is very exciting for me. I really like being part of something else with my music". Gymrock, that is.
