Irish Modern Dance with a lot of glow in the blood

21/11/2016 written by Mohan Mani
In the show Rhythm of the Dance, members of the National Dance Company of Ireland show off their skills.

The dancers have been dancing and tap-dancing at high speed on selected Swiss stages since 1999. The Rhythm of the Dance stars have been learning their skills in their home country since childhood. There is passion in their blood. The ensemble of the latest tour represents the Ireland of the 21st century without forgetting the roots of Irish culture. The 22 dancers whirl and stomp across the stage with dreamlike confidence to the sound of five musicians and three tenors, captivating the audience. And in a quiet moment, they dream that perhaps one day the Emerald Isle will once again be a united nation.

Rhythm of the Dance: From Ireland to New York

In terms of content, this time it's a journey from the origins of the Irish people and their mythology to the hardship-filled stories of Irish emigrants; from the rolling hills of Connemara to the skyscraper canyons of modern New York. The two-hour show combines the energy and passion of Irish and modern dance with romantic dance scenes, mystical sounds with Irish rhythms and dancing precision with competitive sport - all this in combination with a skillful light show and imaginative costumes.

Special folk charm

The live band also plays a mixture of traditional Irish melodies and contemporary pop ballads. Whether bodhrán or tin whistle, accordion, banjo, harp or violin - the musicians elicit a special folk charm from their instruments and move with stylistic confidence between ballads and exuberant melodies.
