The dance show celebrated its world premiere in Zurich on Tuesday, September 20 - blog.ticketcorner.ch was there.
Is it tango? Is it breakdance? Breathlessly, you follow the dancers on the stage of the Maag Event Hallden as they whirl across the stage in the international show "Break the Tango". Athletic, artistic, expressive. The two dance styles of tango and street dance blend so skillfully that you are drawn into a new world of movement right from the start. The world premiere at the Maag Areal in Zurich was a success. Darko Soolfrank is clearly delighted with the standing ovation at the end of the show - he is the inventor and producer of this innovative show.
Break the tango: new dance forms to thrilling electrotango music
Eight international tango dancers, including the two former tango world champion couples German Cornejo with Gisela Galeassi and Ezequiel Lopez with Camila Alegre, perform thrilling and sensual choreographies together with four street dance professionals. The sound for the varied show comes live from the band "Otros Aires", an electrotango band from Buenos Aires, which has been modernizing tango musically since 2003. Electrotango is full, synthetic beats mixed with singing, chanting and sound snippets from traditional tango songs.
In the live show "Break the Tango", the Argentinian singer and songwriter Luciano Bassi and the powerful-voiced singer Gisela Lepio alternate on the vocal solos. Gisela Lepio was recognized as a discovery at the last Latin Golden Awards for her role as the diva in the musical "Priscilla, Queen of Desert" and has the vocal potential of Aretha Franklin. It's worth a visit just to see her and her singing colleague Luciano Bassi.
Argentinian tango world champion meets Swiss breakdance
The idea for "Break the Tango" was born a few years ago in Zurich. The choreographer and former tango world champion German Cornejowas a guest in Zurich with "Tango Fire", a classical dance company. Together with Darko Soolfrank, the producer and operator of the MaagHalle, he philosophized about new dance forms, the development of classical dance styles and the blending of tradition and modernity. The result is a highly dynamic show that gives tango beginners in particular an exciting insight into the world of leading and following, seducing and distancing oneself.
