SRF presents highlights from this year's Basel Tattoo on Saturday evening. Tickets for the twelfth live edition in 2017 are already available in advance.
For the SRF show on Saturday evening, Basel presenter Heinz Margot will comment on the ten-day Basel Tattoo military music festival, which thrilled over 90,000 fans this summer. The "Nippon Sport Science University Shudan-kodo Marching Team" became the audience's favorite, tearing the audience from their seats with their choreographies.
World premieres with bad weather
The anniversary formation of the Top Secret Drum Corps surprised with a skillful hoverboard performance and impressed with a drum group of more than 40 members. The audience experienced a world premiere with the joint performance of the two naval bands "The Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines" from Great Britain and the "Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force Band, Tokyo". The only thing that didn't play along was the weather: It poured with rain during their performance. This had no effect on the musical quality of their show, but it gave the images with the reflective surface of the arena floor a special charm.
On the one hand, the Basel Tattoo 2016 thrived on the traditional sounds of the combined bagpipe and military music formations. On the other hand, the more than 800 performers showed how this can be turned into a contemporary, surprising and emotional entertainment show.
Basel Tattoo highlights in the SRF program
The TV broadcast next Saturday at 20:10 on SRF 1 (or as a replay on "Play SRF") will bring these highlights to life once again and awaken anticipation for the Basel Tattoo 2017, which will take place from July 19 to 29. The performances of the "Swiss Army Recruit Band", the "OzScot Highland Dancers" from Australia and "His Majesty The King's Guard Band and Drill Team" from Norway have already been confirmed. Tickets for the 2017 live shows can also be purchased now for the first time, with ticket prices remaining unchanged in all categories for all events, according to Basel Tattoo producer and director Erik Julliard.
