Album of the week: "Helene Fischer" - a must for Schlager fans

12/05/2017 written by Michel Imhof
Fans have had to wait four long years - now Helene Fischer's new studio album is finally here. It is simply called "Helene Fischer".

The artist

Helene Fischer has blossomed from a little pop singer to arguably the biggest star on the German music scene. She fills halls and stadiums and has been a household name for everyone in Germany, Austria and Switzerland since "Atemlos durch die Nacht". Year after year, her "Helene Fischer Show" has achieved top ratings. Over 1.2 million people attended her last tour, during which she sold out the Olympic Stadium in Berlin twice.

The album

Strangely, Helene Fischer kept a low profile after the album was announced: there was no single in advance, videos of performances with the new songs were deleted everywhere. But the long wait since the last studio album (released in 2013) has paid off for fans: the deluxe version of the new album contains a whole 24 (!) new songs. Almost a double album.

Verdict

"Helene Fischer" is a modern, if not groundbreaking pop album that takes her one step further into the mainstream. Electropop sounds can be heard on it as well as country and Latin American tones. The songs were written by well-known authors such as Kristina Bach, and one was penned by Hillary Lindsey, who provided some of the songs for Lady Gaga's last album ("Joanne").

Live

Helene Fischer will go on a major indoor tour in fall 2017. Five concerts have been announced at the Hallenstadion Zurich, and she is working with 45 Degrees, a Cirque du Soleil company, on the production. The stadium tour will then follow in 2018, with Helene Fischer stopping off at Basel's St. Jakob-Park.
