Album of the week: Wincent Weiss brings us something beautiful against the silence

14/04/2017 written by Michel Imhof
With Wincent Weiss, German pop has a new face to remember. "Irgendwas gegen die Stille" is more than the title promises.

The artist

If you like German pop by Tim Bendzko and Max Giesinger, you have to remember Wincent Weiss. The 24-year-old beauty became famous through his participation in the casting show "Deutschland sucht den Superstar". He made it to the recall in the Caribbean in 2013. However, he quickly realized that the casting route wasn't the right one for him: "I just thought to myself: 'Hey, this isn't what you want. But how cool: When do you ever get the chance to go to the Caribbean as an 18-year-old without a rich family?"

A collaboration with Gestört aber GeiL & Koby Funk followed in 2015 with "Unter meiner Haut", the same year he released his first track "Regenbogen". He has also performed as the opening act for Andreas Bourani. Weiss is also beautiful to look at: With a height of 187 centimeters and his trained body, he is a sought-after model and even stood on the catwalk for Versace in 2016.

The new album

Weiss made his big breakthrough when he released "Musik sein" in 2016. A line from the song also provided the title for the album, which is now being released over a year later: "Something against the silence." The album contains 13 tracks, all of which tell "stories based on personal experiences and thoughts".

Verdict

"Irgendwas gegen die Stille" is a solid German pop album that will appeal to fans of Glasperlenspiel and Tim Bendzko. However, anyone expecting musical experiments will be disappointed. In addition to the four previously released singles "Regenbogen", "Musik sein", "Feuerwerk" and "Nur ein Herzschlag entfernt", there are many other radio-friendly songs. Everything comes from a single source, Weiss remains true to his style. Minus point: The lyrics are very interchangeable in places, so that almost nothing sticks.

Recommended tracks

"Mittendrin": Modern German pop song, suitable for a sunny Sunday afternoon.
"HerzLos": Beautiful heartbreak ballad with an optimistic twist.

Live

Wincent Weiss will be performing at the Argovia Fäscht at Birrfeld airfield on June 10. Further Swiss live dates are planned, but nothing has been announced yet.
