Annett Louisan: The singer between sweet and sour

13/02/2017 written by Roland Grüter
In a bad mood? Then listen to a song by Annett Louisan. She has created a world that makes her and her fans equally happy.

Bohemian: she looks like Adele's younger sister (at just 152 cm tall) and has a voice like a candy mouse. The world of Annett Louisan (39) also seems to be made of marzipan. Her songs sound sweet, somewhere between chanson, pop, musette waltz, jazz and bossa nova. But the lyrics she lays over them are serious, direct, taken from the lives of modern women. In doing so, she drives barbs into the idyll. Critics call the singer a "music fairy" or "pop doll", but she obviously sees herself as a bohemian. At least that's the title of her debut album from 2004 - a chart rocket!

The ideal life: The singer is storming the charts, even though she sees herself as far removed from the mainstream. "I'm playing somewhere, in a league of my own," Louisan once said in an interview. "There are hardly any constraints, hardly any pressure. I can do whatever I want." She doesn't have to struggle like the German stars of the pop business. Immediately after her debut, she was praised as a savior from "German pomposity". She took it in her stride and followed it up with the album "Unausgesprochen" in 2005, only to take stock of her short career two years later. The conclusion and title of her third work: "Das optimale Leben" (2007).

Part-time hippie: Everyday life also saps the artist's strength (break-ups, disappointments). On stage, however, she still celebrates the lightness of being - as in 2008, when she encourages her fans on her fourth album: "Let's dance and sing, with a few flowers in our hair." For her, one thing is certain: "We are all part-time hippies." The album stays in the charts for 31 weeks - 50 sold-out concerts.

Too muchinformation: Louisan's career also takes her out into the wide world. With "Zu viel Information" in her luggage, she traveled to South Africa in 2016 to take part in the musical television format "Sing meinen Song - Das Tauschkonzert" with Seven, Samy Deluxe and Xavier Naidoo, among others.

Berlin, Cape Town, Prague: After her return, the musician thinks about new songs in Berlin, remembers Cape Town and travels to Prague to bring her ideas to the studio. She has collected ten cover songs from Rammstein to Udo Jürgens - which she is now bringing with her to Zurich and Basel. She herself sees the series as an adventure, leaving familiar territory to find out "where my home is". We are excited.
