Depeche Mode singer Dave Gahan: "I'm much stronger than I always thought"

06/01/2017 written by Dominik Hug
Depeche Mode are coming to Zurich for a concert in June. Singer Dave Gahan already reveals what we can expect from the concert at Letzigrund.
You have a magnificent ring on your finger ...

Oh yes. A friend of mine in New York designed it. It's a skull - aimed at me.
Just an accessory - or does the ring also have a meaning?

It's a reminder that death lurks around every corner. As you know, I've already had my experiences with it. The ring reminds me that you should consciously experience every moment. Life can be over very quickly.
You look great for having cheated death several times. How do you keep fit?

I go to the gym regularly and run around on the trainer like a madman. It helps me clear my head. I like to be pushed. I've also been doing yoga for 15 years, at least four times a week. At my age, you should make a bit of an effort, I think (laughs).
Next year you're going on a world tour again. It will be your eighteenth with Depeche Mode. What else do you want to top?

It's not about topping anything. We just have the feeling that our job with Depeche Mode isn't done yet. We haven't finished our work yet. Incidentally, such tours are also very spiritually enriching. Millions of people come together and celebrate. It's like a huge, global family coming together once again. It goes far beyond who the three of us from Depeche Mode are individually.
What are you most proud of?

That I have survived. And that I have become a good father and a reasonably
tolerable husband. I'm much stronger than I always thought I was.
