Elvis Presley is coming to the Hallenstadion this year! Really? Not quite, but his ex-wife Priscilla is making sure that the audience can still enjoy the talent of the King of Rock'n'Roll today. She explains how in an interview.
You met Elvis Presley 57 years ago. Do you still remember September 13, 1959?
Of course, as if it were yesterday. I was wearing a little white dress and was very nervous. We drove to the house where he lived with his father. Elvis was extremely obliging. But we only chatted briefly that evening. I didn't think I would ever see him again.
Why not?
My parents were anything but enthusiastic. I was only 14 at the time, he was already 24 and famous. But in the end there was nothing they could do about it. Elvis could wrap anyone around his finger.
Eight years later, you were married.
Exactly. And today I'm still sitting here talking about him. Life is crazy sometimes.
Now you're going on your first big Elvis tour with a symphony orchestra.
Yes, and I promise: I will definitely not sing! I wouldn't even dream of it (laughs).
What role do you have?
I tell anecdotes from the past and explain his songs. We recorded the new CD "The Wonder of You" with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. I was involved in this project from the very beginning, especially in selecting the songs. I'm sure it was a dream come true for Elvis.
Where would you be today if Elvis hadn't come into your life?
What if ... I don't think like that. They only come up when you regret something. But I don't regret anything. I think it was destiny that Elvis and I met. And you can't do anything about destiny.
