How did you come up with the combination of medieval music with modern beats?
It started with a song that we produced together with a DJ friend. That's when we realized that you have a lot of possibilities to create sounds with a synthesizer. As we don't just want to tell a story with our music, but also create moods and images, the synthesizer is the best way to do this.
You set medieval texts to music. Do you also write your own lyrics for the songs?
Yes, but we refer to old content. For example, I read Macbeth and then told a little story about Macbeth in my own words. Every now and then we even say that we are so bothered by something political or environmentally destructive and then address it in our songs. But with old words, of course. There's a double layer to it.
What was better in the Middle Ages than today?
We have lost our closeness to nature. If we believed that it was alive - almost worshipped it - we could improve a lot in our lives. I firmly believe that certain illnesses that we have today are due to the fact that we have distanced ourselves too far from our own nature.
Is that also your motto in life?
A little bit. As we often travel around the world and are surrounded by computers in the studio, it's not possible to lead a secluded life. But I try to stay true to my maxims.
Do you think you were born in the wrong century?
Not necessarily. I think it was incredibly hard back then. There were waves of plague, injustice and rape. We are happy about the times we live in. But we also believe that many things are being forgotten nowadays - and we want to try and remind people of that. With old music and rhythms, content and myths as well as through natural religion.
What are you like in private?
We often wear the same clothes as in the videos. I think it's nicer to support creative and small tailors who tailor to measure. It's simply more comfortable.
Are you superstitious?
Yes, but I try to be the master of my own fears and superstitions. I know that if something only brings disadvantages, I don't believe in it. I have had the greatest spiritual experiences on hikes.
What makes your concert special? What is important to you at a concert?
Our concerts are incredibly lively and varied. Many different instruments are played, with which we try to realize the content of the songs.
Are Swiss fans different from German fans?
Not very different. It's a very pleasant audience. The nice thing about Switzerland is that people are very aware of their past. There were also many Celtic influences in Switzerland. That suits us, because we want to remember our own roots.
