Summer is already just around the corner. Not only the garden chairs, but also the concerts are being brought outside. People are wearing less clothes, hormones are going crazy. And this can also be felt at festivals. There is not only partying, but also a lot of flirting.
We remember the Woodstock Festival, which took place near New York in 1969. The golden age of the hippie movement was celebrated: "Love, peace and rock 'n' roll" were the order of the day. Jimi Hendrix, Joe Cocker, Janis Joplin and The Who were just some of the legendary stars who took to the stage. The myth surrounding the original festival still exists today and is celebrated at many festivals.
The atmosphere at the open air festivals in Switzerland is also extraordinary: visitors can escape the daily grind, move into a tent for a few days and immerse themselves in another world: the open air world. Visitors come to listen to good music and have fun. Not even bad weather and the muddy meadows that come with it can dampen the good mood of the die-hard festival fans!
"What happens at the Open Air, stays at the Open Air." But there is another way.
The festival world is a world of its own; you're allowed to do a lot of things here that you're not allowed to do anywhere else. Nobody looks funny when a visitor has a beer for breakfast or walks through the festival grounds calling for Helga. Everything is just very different. Even when it comes to flirting! People come together at the festival from all sorts of different places, want to make new friends and have fun - true to the motto: "What happens at the Open Air, stays at the Open Air." But there is another way. Because you can also find the love of your life at a festival. A good example of this is the story of Jacqueline H. and Marc K. from the canton of Bern. The two met two years ago at the Greenfield Open Air. "I was out with a work colleague and his friends," says Jacqueline, "and these friends were also Marc's friends. So we were at the same camp." They attended the concerts on the festival site in a large group. "I really wanted to see Linkin Park," says Jacqueline. "We didn't actually see each other that day, but he said he'd noticed me from the start."
However, they went back to the tent early after the concerts. "I didn't like that at all," says Jacqueline, "so I went back to the festival with Marc. We partied and danced there." The night was long: "In the end, we didn't sleep at all," she says and laughs. The next day, the two parted ways. No numbers were exchanged. "I thought I'd wait and see if I could find him on Facebook," says Jacqueline, "but he wrote to me before I could even start looking."
"We wanted to wait for Open Air Gampel first"
A period of writing and meetings followed. But they didn't want to rush into anything. "We wanted to wait for Open Air Gampel first," says Jacqueline, "and if it didn't work out, we decided to sleep in two tents." The headliners at that year's edition included Scooter. "That's not necessarily my favorite band." But Marc and Jacqueline were also in the crowd during the German techno band's performance. "While they were going full throttle on stage, he asked me if I wanted to be his girlfriend." A misunderstanding ensued: "I said no at first without thinking, because I just thought: he can't ask me that question at a Scooter gig!" But it all worked out, the two have been a couple since the Scooter gig two years ago. Since then, it's been all about them. "I didn't really notice anything about Scooter," Jacqueline admits and laughs. "In the end, I didn't need my tent any more."
Jacqueline and Marc are now 25 years old and will be attending festivals again this year. "We're going to Greenfield and Open Air Gampel together," Jacqueline reveals. And we're sure to meet and fall in love with a few new couples there too.
