This means that the self-proclaimed Austrian folk rocker is now taking big steps towards the world stage. On November 25, his unplugged concert will be broadcast on MTV - at the same time, Gabalier will release another song from this concert, a cover of the German singer Roger Cicero, who died this year.
Overnight success for Swiss male choir Heimweh
Georg Schlunegger (35), producer and singer of the Swiss high-flyer male choir Heimweh, hardly has time for an interview. "The success has literally overwhelmed us," says the Grindelwald resident. "We just wanted to record beautiful, new Swiss songs that we like," explains the family man, who has lived in Zurich's Kreis 5 district for years. After his newly founded 11-member male choir Heimweh performed on the show "Samschtig-Jass", he and his choir achieved gold status in Switzerland within a month with their album "Heimweh".
Zurich hit producer composes new Swiss folk songs
"I studied the structure of traditional Swiss songs," says Georg Schlunegger. "Then I wrote new lyrics and gave the whole thing a fresh and modern sound," explains the successful producer and composer.
Georg Schlunegger is a real fan of Swiss folk music - and has managed to gently renew it and thus reach many listeners. Together with Andreas Gabalier, the German Alpine boy band Voxxclub and many other folk rockers, he has managed to turn a former trend into a new genre - with a new self-confidence for the musical traditions of the Alpine countries.
