Gregor Meyle sings about the lightness of being

30/10/2016 written by Nina Müller
The VOX TV show "Sing meinen Song" catapulted German songwriter Gregor Meyle in front of an audience of millions in 2014. Now he is going on tour with his new album "Die Leichtigkeit des Seins".

He owes his happiness to television, the success of his voice and his poetic songs. Gregor Meyle (38) first appeared in front of a TV camera nine years ago - and came second behind Stefanie Heinzmann (27) in Stefan Raab's legendary casting show SSDSDSSWEMUGABRTLAD. Then in 2014, the VOX TV show "Sing meinen Song" put him in the spotlight - alongside Xavier Naidoo. On November 11, he presents his new album: "Die Leichtigkeit des Seins".
Mr. Meyle, you are known for your profound songs. Can we now expect a happy album?

Gregor Meyle: Not really. I associate the lightness of being with a certain gratitude and humility before life. The constant awareness of appreciating happiness as it happens.

What do you need to write good songs?

Peace and quiet, a guitar, a sheet of paper or two. Maybe an old piano, a warm cup of tea, a special place. I love nature. But the most important thing is peace and quiet.
You almost always dedicate your songs to love, including "Hier spricht das Herz". Do we listen to our hearts too little?

I have a story to tell about that. A friend gave me a book years ago, and one day a postcard fell out of it. "Beware of the decision you can't smile about" was written on it. A remarkable saying. Because if you are at peace with yourself after making a decision, you can actually smile in a relaxed way. Then a decision comes from the heart.
Cooking is a matter close to your heart. You have already published two cookbooks. How did you come up with that?

There was a lot of demand for the sheet music of my songs. But as I can't read music myself, it was too boring for me. I love cooking and that's why recipes are now included in the sheet music books.
Your favorite dish?

I'm a big fan of Sardinia - and I love spaghetti alle vongole. It tastes best on the island.
What are you most looking forward to in the coming months?

To the tour, to spending time with my family and friends, to a beautiful new album
album that is full of love and creativity. On tour, we're like one big family.
