Lady Gaga becomes a country girl

06/10/2016 written by Michel Imhof
Lady Gaga played the first of three promotional concerts for her "Dive Pub Tour" tonight. The audience not only got to enjoy the current single "Perfect Illusion", but also three new songs.

Lady Gaga still manages to reinvent herself. With her fifth album, she appears more pared down than ever, all the flashy costumes seem to be gathering dust in the closet.

At the first of three "Dive Bar" concerts that Gaga is holding together with an American beer producer to promote her new album "Joanne" (release date October 21, 2016), the artist appeared in a country-style jacket and a pink hat, which can also be seen on the new album cover. For the last song, Gaga swaps the jacket for hot pants and a crop top, takes off her hat and ties her blonde hair into a ponytail.

Lady Gaga in the capital of country music

With Nashville, the capital of country music, Lady Gaga couldn't have chosen a better place. After all, the three tracks presented here are all heavily influenced by country music. No wonder: Gaga received support from Hillary Lindsey, among others, for the writing of three songs. She has already co-written songs for Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum and Carrie Underwood.

With every new album, Lady Gaga brings a new image with her, this time the reduced Gaga. She said to the audience: "I'm Lady Gaga, but please call me Joanne tonight." She began the short set with "Sinner's Prayer", followed by "A-Yo", "Million Reasons" and, of course, "Perfect Illusion" at the end. "Sinner's Prayer" and "Millions Reasons" are country ballads, while "A-Yo" is more of an upbeat country song and "Perfect Illusion" is rock-pop. For the premiere of "Million Reasons", Gaga also brought co-writer Hillary Lindsey on stage.

"Million Reasons" available as the second track on iTunes

Whether Lady Gaga is really turning to country music or whether she has chosen the songs especially for her Nashville concert will be revealed next week. Lady Gaga will then play her second concert in an as yet unknown location.

Lady Gaga's fifth album "Joanne" will be released on October 21. She has enlisted Mark Ronson ("Uptown Funk", "Valerie") as her main producer. The second track "Million Reasons" is now available in the iTunes store. If you pre-order the album, you can already get the track and the single "Perfect Illusion".
