Herbie Hancock - a legend not to be missed
The Montreux Jazz Festival announces more big names:
Herbie Hancock, one of the most influential pianists in jazz history, will be performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival for the 37th time on the evening of July 3, 2016, and has long been considered an ambassador for the festival. This year, Hancock will be playing in the Auditorium Stravinski, right after the Scofield, Mehldau, Giuliana and John Mclaughlin & 4th Dimension trio.
Herbie Hancock (76) composed jazz classics such as "Watermelon Man" and "Cantaloupe Island" and is one of the most active musical legends. The 14-time Grammy winner was already on stage with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the age of 11 and was the first to combine jazz with rock, funk, soul and hip hop. Hancock released his debut album in 1962 on the Bluenote label and became a member of the Miles Davis Quintet. In the 1970s, Hancock also began composing for film and television, created a number of songs that are now considered jazz standards and was honored several times for his talent for improvisation. In 1986, Herbie Hancock also won an Oscar for his film music for the movie "Round Midnight".

As one of the regulars on stage at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Quincy Jones is not to be missed in the anniversary year either, with a tribute concert evening! Joining Quincy on stage, it was announced today, will be his long-time friends, cult vocalist Al Jarreau, and Grammy-winning pop and jazz singer Patti Austin, who was discovered by Quincy Jones at the age of four and has worked with superstars such as Michael Jackson, George Benson and Billy Joel, winning a Grammy in 2008 for her Gershwin album "Avant Gershwin". The three superstars will be accompanied on July 8 by the Swiss Pepe Lienhard Big Band, which has already accompanied other musical heavyweights such as Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Shirley Bassey.

Son Lux is also a new addition to the line-up: He received the "Best New Artist" award for his debut album, which was released in 2008, and plays addictive post-rock. The versatile artist Ryan Lott also works for advertising, composes film music and has already worked with musicians Lourde, Boots and My brightest Diamond, and released the album "Bones" in 2015 with the hit singles "Change is Everything" and "Undone".
