Avant-garde evening with Culture Club and Parov Stelar
Other evenings are dedicated to country, pop, jazz and indie pop. The first country evening of the Baloise Session in five years will be performed by the great country singer Kenny Rogers, together with the energetic country-rock singer Brandi Carlile.
The reunited cult band Culture Club from the 1980s and the Austrian DJ and electroswing musician Parov Stelar are set for an evening of avant-garde music. Norah Jones will be joined by Swiss singer Damian Lynn, the German breakout band Silbermond will present their new album "Leichtes Gepäck" and the supporting act will be Max Jury, a US songwriter who toured with Lana Del Rey this summer. The Basel Jazz Night presents British jazz singer Stacey Kent together with bassist Marcus Miller.
Soul night with Seven and Laura Mvula
The British Kaiser Chiefs and the Swiss-German female duo BOY represent the indie sound this year, while Spanish Latino superstar Álvaro Soler and Mexican guitarists Rodrigo y Gabriela ignite the Latin fire. Soul is represented by the Swiss soul god Seven, together with the very talented British newcomer Laura Mvula, who presents her second album "The dreaming room".
The Baloise Session was founded in 1985 and from the very beginning was able to engage outstanding artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, James Brown, Grace Jones, Elton John and Liza Minnelli. Sadly, the founder and president of the Baloise Session, Matthias Müller, passed away in July of this year after a long illness. Baloise CEO Beatrice Stirnimann says of her long-time business partner: "I worked with Matthias Müller for 20 years. He was a very inspiring person. "However, the future of the Baloise Session is secure: the main sponsor Baloise Insurance has just extended the contract until 2020.
