ELO - the Electric Light Orchestra - is back! On May 3, the British cult pop band from the 1970s will present their new album "Alone in the universe" at Zurich's Hallenstadion. With over 50 million records sold and countless top ten hits, ELO is one of the most successful pop bands in music history. The smash hits "Don't bring me down", "Confusion", "All over the world" and "Telephone line" can be sung along to by anyone who grew up in the 80s - and will certainly be heard in the Hallenstadion.
The songs by ELO are enduring earworms and embody the band's love of experimentation and the great skill of the singer and creative mind Jeff Lynne, who wanted to tie in with the music of the Beatles when he founded the band in 1970. He succeeded, as the orchestral and anthemic rock-pop sound of the British Electric Light Orchestra has been delighting fans all over the world for over 40 years.
14 years after "Zoom", Jeff Lynne's ELO are now releasing a new album, "Alone In The Universe" (Sony Music), which has been highly praised by "Rolling Stone" and others. With this album, Jeff Lynne continues ELO's orchestral rock-pop sound, his voice is still crystal clear at 67, and the music is as brilliant as ever. The first single from the new album is called "When I was a boy", and the song line "As soon as I was in my bed, music played in my head" reveals that jack-of-all-trades Jeff Lynne already had a lot of chords in his head as a child.
Jeff Lynne is not only the mastermind behind ELO, in his productive life he has also worked as a producer of songs for the Beatles, Tom Petty, Randy Newman and Bryan Adams, was a member of the band The Traveling Wilburys (George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Roy Orbison!) and produced the new Bryan Adams album "Get Up" in 2015.
The legendary ELO spaceship is on its way to Zurich!
