Vanessa Mai: "The Swiss can cook really well"

04/05/2017 written by Michel Imhof
Young and old love her: Vanessa Mai started her career in the band project Wolkenfrei and achieved greater fame on the jury of "DSDS". We met her after her first tour.

Your first tour as Vanessa Mai, no longer as Wolkenfrei, is now behind you. How was it?
Mega. It was an unforgettable time. Being on tour alone for the first time, being in a hall where the whole audience was there just for me. And seeing my very own fans for the first time was really great. I've already tasted blood and want to go on tour again soon.

What did you learn on the tour?
That's a good question. I've learned a lot, but when everything started with Wolkenfrei four years ago, I was already on the road a lot. What's different now is that the focus is entirely on me and it's my program. I also dance a lot, which is also new. It was a time I would never want to miss.

In 2017, you are often on the road in Switzerland. Time for a move?
(Laughs.) I love Switzerland. I love to eat, and you're really good at cooking. I also love skiing, I generally love winter as much as summer. But I've never thought about moving.

You're engaged. When will the wedding bells ring?
When the time comes, everyone will know. That's all I'm going to say.

You gave up your position on the jury of "Deutschland sucht den Superstar". How difficult was that decision?
It wasn't difficult at all. I really enjoyed the time and am very grateful for it. But it was important for me to be able to concentrate on my job again. I am a singer, and I will remain one. My tour was planned during the auditions, so I simply had to make a decision.

You won the "Echo" last year. Where is it now?
It's funny that you should ask that just now. Until today it was still in the living room, now it's in the office.

Have you ever been mistaken for the violinist Vanessa Mae?
Not visually. Someone mispronounced "Vanessa Mai" once, but that's about it. I can't play the violin either, that would be horrible.

When will there be new music from you?
My new album "Regenbogen" will be released on August 11, 2017. And I'll be going on tour again next year.

Was Dieter Bohlen involved again as album producer?
Let us surprise you!
