2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship
The anticipation is growing. The 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, the biggest annual winter sports event, will be held in Switzerland for the first time since 2009. The 3rd sales phase starts today, Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 12 noon. Tickets for individual matches are now available.
The 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship starts in Switzerland in just over three and a half months. The biggest annual winter sports event will take place from May 15 to 31, 2026 in the Swiss Life Arena in Zurich and the BCF Arena in Fribourg. At the field hockey festival of the year, 16 nations will compete against each other in a total of 64 games. The goal: to lift the world championship trophy on May 31.
Ice hockey fans now have the next chance to get their hands on the coveted tickets for this year's finals. After the first two sales phases, in which venue packages for Zurich and Fribourg (1st phase) and day packages (2nd phase) could be purchased, the 3rd sales phase now follows. Here, fans can purchase individual tickets for certain games in addition to the existing package offers. Ideal for all those who may only want to watch one match live on each of several days.
The Swiss national ice hockey team has a clear goal at the upcoming World Championships: to become world champions in their own country for the first time in history. After two second places at the 2024 and 2025 finals, Switzerland is ready for the big coup. So it's «Time to Shine» for the ice comrades led by national team coach Patrick Fischer. But before things hopefully get into the hot phase, Switzerland must prevail in Group A against the defending champions USA, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Austria, Hungary and Great Britain.
