On September 23, newly promoted Zurich will host the champions in Basel. At last, the Super League classic is back!
It's almost 500 days since FCZ took on FC Basel in a league match. The two teams have met in the Cup in the meantime (3:1 win for Basel in the 2017 quarter-final). But the last time they met in the championship was on May 7, 2016.
Zurich had to fight for promotion last season in the Challenge League - which Uli Forte's team successfully mastered. Now the city club is back and wants to make life difficult for the league giants from Basel - FCB have won eight league titles in a row. In fact, the current season promises to be exciting again. Basel are unexpectedly dropping points and Zurich are showing that they can compete at the top. On September 23, FCB will welcome FCZ to St. Jakob Park in Basel. The first league classic in a long time is therefore on the cards - Swiss football fans are eagerly awaiting this event.
Zurich still has some unfinished business with FCB. They have not won a game against the champions since winning the 2014 Cup final. Seven defeats and two draws were the result of FCZ's last duels. Will the tide turn this season?
