There are only around 270 days to go until the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship takes place in Switzerland from May 15 to 31. The schedule has now been officially confirmed. It promises exciting matches between top teams. Countless ice hockey fans from all over the world will travel to this year's venues in Zurich and Fribourg to watch the spectacle live and share in the excitement.
The tournament kicks off on May 15, 2026 with the Group A match between Finland and Germany at the Swiss Life Arena in Zurich. Canada and Sweden will kick off Group B in Fribourg. Switzerland will also face the USA in Zurich on May 15. The rematch of this year's final guarantees excitement and will make Swiss ice hockey fans' hearts beat faster. The Czech Republic and Denmark will also play each other at the same time in Fribourg.
Until May 31, the world's best national teams will be battling it out for the world championship title in 64 top-class matches.
In addition to the match against the USA, there are other exciting encounters on the program. Switzerland will face Latvia, neighboring Germany and Austria, as well as Great Britain, Hungary and Finland.
Ticket sales for the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship will be staggered: The official pre-sale start with the day packages and hospitality offers will begin on September 8, 2025, while individual tickets will be available from February 2026.
