On Wednesday, league-leading Lugano will face FC St. Gallen. The rescheduled match kicks off at 7 p.m. at the AIL Arena. And the big question is: Where is this championship headed?
The rescheduled match from Round 4 was originally set for August 23, when both clubs were in the Conference League playoffs. Lugano secured a spot in the group stage, while St. Gallen was eliminated.
And so, the Round 4 showdown is finally here. The omens couldn’t be more different. Lugano leads the Brack Super League with 19 points from seven games, won 3–1 in Basel, and dropped points for the first time on Saturday in a 2–2 draw against YB. Substitute Albian Ajeti saved the day late in the game. St. Gallen is inconsistent: a 2–0 win at Servette, followed by a 0–3 home loss to Sion. That leaves them with 10 points and in fifth place.
So will Wednesday provide a clue? Can dark horse St. Gallen make another push toward the top, or will Lugano become the clear favorite in this championship?
