"Sand Games" in Gstaad: Great opportunities for Swiss beach volleyball duos

26/03/2018 written by Nicole Vandenbrouck
In mid-July, the international elite once again transform Gstaad into a beach volleyball stronghold.

La-ola waves in the middle of the village. Loud shouts of "My block, my block" echoing through the streets. And crowds of spectators transforming Gstaad BE into a beach volleyball stronghold.

When the major tournament in the Bernese Oberland, popular in the scene because of the unique view of the mountains, kicks off, the atmosphere in the arena is guaranteed from the first moment to the last ball of the final. Especially when the Swiss beach volleyball duos rock the center court!

Joana Heidrich (26) and Anouk Vergé-Dépré (26) may only be playing together for the second year this year, but they already showed their talent and ambitions in their debut season with a 4th place in Gstaad. After their successful performance at their home tournament, the duo took the momentum with them and achieved a strong 9th place at both the World Championships and the European Championships.

The second promising Swiss women's duo, Tanja Hüberli (25) and Nina Betschart (22), are tackling their third season together. They have already won two bronze medals at a major tournament (2017 in Porec, 2016 in Klagenfurt).

Two new teams have been formed for the Swiss men: Mirco Gerson has been playing alongside blocker Adrian Heidrich and Michiel Zandbergen with Gabriel Kissling since this season. Nico Beeler and Marco Krattiger are aiming for their second season.

But they all have something in common: The tournament in Gstaad is their highlight of the season and is marked in red in their calendars! Hopefully all beach volleyball fans will too, because in addition to top-class sport, they can expect the best entertainment and catering in the Beach Village without missing any of the action on the center court.
