World Ski Championships St. Moritz: Lara, Wendy and Beat - A trio makes us dream

How many World Championship medals will Switzerland win? A lot depends on Lara Gut, Wendy Holdener and Beat Feuz in St. Moritz.

13 male and 11 female skiers: The medal hunt for Swiss Ski starts on Tuesday in St. Moritz. The big question is how many medals our country will win - the federation has not set a target. As a reminder: in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (2011) and Schladming (2013), the Swiss only won one medal, while in Vail in 2015 they won three. But who will shine for Switzerland this time?

In addition to young, up-and-coming athletes and those with outsider chances, we have three very hot guns in the World Championships: Lara Gut (25), Wendy Holdener (23) and Beat Feuz (29)!

Let's start with the good. After her fall last weekend, the Ticino skier is getting better day by day and the bruises on her upper arm and thigh are getting smaller and smaller. She plans to resume her snow training on Saturday. One thing is certain: Gutz is one of the favorites in the super-G (February 7), downhill (February 12) and giant slalom (February 16).Lara is still missing a gold medal at major events - now she seems ready to make her career golden.

Wendy Holdener would like to do the same as her teammate. The skier from central Switzerland has two chances to do so. She won the small crystal globe in the combined last winter, so she will be a force to be reckoned with on February 10. Holdener should have recovered from the troublesome cold that plagued her this winter. And: in the slalom (February 18), Super Wendy has a great chance of winning another medal after 6 World Cup podium places.

Finally, there is Beat Feuz. His crash in Kitzbühel is long forgotten, the "ball lightning" is in top form. What's more, the course in St. Moritz suits him; last season he won twice on the Corviglia. The man from Schangnau is a hot tip in both the super-G (February 8) and the downhill (February 11).
