Five reasons why the immersive Titanic exhibition is worth seeing

16/09/2025 written by Letizia

«The Legend of the Titanic - The Immersive Exhibition» is the new concept of the MAAG Lichthalle, which will run until February 8, 2026. The exhibition takes visitors on a gripping journey through time, where they can experience the magic and fascination of the Titanic up close.

1. 360° projections in the large, immersive part of the exhibition

In the large hall, the story of the fateful voyage is projected onto all surfaces in a visually appealing way. In the story, a little girl and her father embark on such a journey for the first time. The girl is very excited, even though she «only» made it to the 3rd grade. Everything is shown, from the exploration tour on the ship to the report of the iceberg, the collision with it, the rescue of many passengers and the sinking of the Titanic. You experience the story at first hand, because you are right in the middle of it.

2. the story of the Titanic

The Titanic experience begins right at the ticket office. Because you are on the jetty, walk alongside the ship and go through the ship's entrance. You immediately see the first information board on the history of the Titanic and then enter the 3rd class of the ship. The path continues along the information boards until you reach 1st class. There you will also find individual exhibits.

3. two different VR experiences

In the first VR experience, you sit down and put on the glasses. You are enchanted by beautiful orchestral sounds and see excerpts from the Titanic. But the second VR experience is even more impressive. In this one, you also put on a pair of glasses and walk through an empty room in reality. However, the VR goggles give you the feeling that you are walking across the decks of the magnificent Titanic before it sank. You can see the entrance hall with the huge staircase, walk through a 1st class cabin where a lady is preparing a dress and walk through a room occupied by a crew member. You also explore the ship away from the rooms and then walk along a corridor where you can look into various cabins. Towards the end, you go out onto the ship's deck, where you can watch a beautiful sunset. This experience is a real highlight!

4. insights into individual people on the Titanic

Of the 2,223 passengers and crew members on the Titanic, 1,517 people unfortunately lost their lives. Some of the survivors - including Swiss people - have detailed stories of how they experienced the journey and the impact. Take Alfons Simonius-Blumer, for example. He was a 1st class passenger and played cards with his companions in the smoking lounge. Without realizing that the ship had already collided with the iceberg, the group around Simonius-Blumer went to their cabins at around 23:30. When he realized what had happened, he became curious and tried to find out what had caused the incident. He was rescued a short time later. Stories like this make you empathize even more with the passengers.

5. a whole area full of «Curiosities about the Titanic»

Here is an example: On April 14, 1912, only 1 minute and 7 seconds passed between Frederick Fleet's (seaman in charge of the lookout) warning and the collision with the iceberg.

What other curious facts are there about the Titanic? You'll have to go and see for yourself.
