A musical like a vacation day: From May 6, 2026 MAMMA MIA! can be experienced for the first time in Swiss German at the MAAG Halle Zurich. The dialect version brings a new closeness, charm and a wink to the international classic.
The story remains the same - but the tone is new. A wedding is about to take place on a sunny island in Greece, where Sophie invites her three possible fathers, without her mother Donna, played by Sandra Studer, knowing anything. Between past and present, chaos and emotion, the world-famous songs of ABBA unfold - rearranged, but with the same catchy tune potential.
Dancing Queen, The Winner Takes It All, Money, Money, Money or Voulez-Vous unfold an unexpected effect in dialect. What once shone in English takes on a surprising depth and charisma in Swiss German.
Behind the production is the Shake Company in collaboration with MAAG Moments. It is directed by Dominik Flaschka, with musical direction by Roman Riklin. Sandra Studer plays Donna, other roles are played by Viola Tami, Hans-Caspar Gattiker, Sabrina Kern, Lavdrim Xhemaili and Moira Albertalli.
The ensemble brings stage experience and humor - the perfect mix for a story that oscillates between emotion and escapism. The play will be performed at the MAAG Halle in Zurich from May 6, 2026. The performance lasts around 2 hours and 25 minutes including an interval.
MAMMA MIA! is one of the most successful musicals in the world - but it is a premiere in Swiss German. And that's exactly what makes this version so special: well-known songs, a familiar language and an ensemble that has Zurich at its heart.
Anyone who loves ABBA will not want to miss this production. And if you haven't enjoyed the musical before, you could be inspired anew here.
