Ewigi Liebi: Applause for Tizi, Cuco and Lo & Leduc

With a few changes and a new ensemble, Switzerland's most successful musical continues to delight: yesterday, "Ewigi Liebi" celebrated its revival after a break of around five years.

The musical with the greatest Swiss hits celebrated its revival yesterday in the Maag Halle. "Ewigi Liebi" celebrated its premiere in 2007 and ended in 2012 after around 900 performances.

To mark its tenth anniversary, the makers are reviving the musical: "It's easier to imagine than it is," said director and co-author Dominik Flaschka. New songs were tried out and sometimes discarded. "You can't just get all the props out of the cellar and start straight away."

Four songs exchanged

This made it all the more exciting to see whether the story about the love story in the mountain village of Trueb would still work. A few changes were made: The songs by Mani Matter were replaced, the makers no longer got the rights. Instead, two folk songs, a song by Min King and a track by Lo & Leduc were added. A total of 42 Swiss hits were incorporated into the musical.

Almost all the actors were re-cast. Prominent addition to the musical: "The Voice" winner Tiziana Gulino plays the role of Gret. She quickly became an audience favorite with her cross-fake yodel interludes and impressed with a medley of older folk songs, such as "Es Burebüebli mani nid."

Marc "Cuco" Dietrich from Peter, Sue and Marc celebrated his debut as Mr. Lieberherr. He received great applause from the audience as soon as he entered the stage and was also able to convince throughout the play in his role, but the performance of the other actors, above all the leading actors Jan Simon Messerli as Daneli, Sandra Leon as young Heidi, Monica Quinter as older Heidi and Christoph Wettstein as Dänu (he has already played over 750 performances of "Ewigi Liebi") is also worthy of mention. In general, the ensemble is very well-rehearsed after their six-week rehearsal phase.

Donald Trump also finds his place in Trueb

Basically, the play is still the same, but minor things have been modernized. For example, Donald Trump also finds a place in the musical as Murmeli.

However, the creators could have gone even further here: The marmot "Bruno" in particular, who is a gay marmot, is an explosion of clichés: he is pink, wears a belly, goes to the nail salon and wants to "talk from woman to woman" with his sweetheart's mother. This is how only backwoods people who only know homosexuals from television in the form of Olivia Jones imagine gays.

In general, the coming-out story of the Murmeli family, played by Helmi Sigg and Midi Gottet from Trio Eden, among others, seems a little outdated. Nowadays, no boy will probably have to explain to his parents what it means to be gay. Perhaps the story of Murmeli could have been developed further without changing the main story of the musical.

Standing ovation at the end

After the premiere, the creators were relieved: the audience acknowledged the performance with a standing ovation, with a big fan sitting in the front row: he was seeing the musical for the 106th time.

Even after the premiere, the guests were unanimous: Ewigi Liebi continues to inspire. Many had already seen the musical, and their enjoyment of the play was still just as great. Ewigi Liebi for "Ewigi Liebi".
