Robbie Williams invites you to the Heavy Entertainment Show

04/11/2016 written by Michel Imhof
A look at Robbie Williams' discography is impressive: since leaving Take That, he has released ten albums, nine of which have reached the top of the album charts in the UK, eight in Germany and seven in Austria and Switzerland. Robbie Williams' eleventh album is being released today. Will it be able to match his success?

Mister Entertainment is back with "The Heavy Entertainment Show", his eleventh album. He announced this album shortly before his appearance at the 10th Apple Music Festival (we reported).

A typical Robbie album. Anyone expecting lots of new sounds will be disappointed. On the opener "The Heavy Entertainment Show", Williams delivers a song that could replace "Let Me Entertain You" as a concert opener in the future. "Party Like A Russian", the lead single, is the album's catchy tune.

The usual Robbie sound

It's no wonder that the new album sounds like earlier Robbie songs. Williams is once again working with Guy Chambers, who produced and wrote hits such as "Come Undone", "Feel", "Millennium", "Rock DJ" and "Let Me Entertain You". They had already worked together on the first five albums, and Chambers has been back on board with Robbie since the tenth album "Swing Both Ways". The new album also includes songs by Ed Sheeran, Rufus Wainwright and The Killers.

"The challenge this time was to make the album as big as possible," says Williams. That's why he's already making it big in the first lines of the album: "Good evening, children of cultural unrestraint. You've been looking for a savior, here I am," sings Robbie Williams as an introduction to his eleventh album. And goes on to address the recent deaths of Prince and David Bowie, among others: "And all the greats are dying so fast while I'm still here. Enjoy me while you can."

"I wanted big choruses, universal lyrics and universal melodies on this album," Williams continues. On the album, which comprises eleven songs in the standard version and 16 in the deluxe version, many facets of Robbie can be heard despite the familiar patterns. "Motherfucker" is a rock song to bawl along to, "Love My Life" is a motivating, calmer pop song that could also be the title track of an RTL reality documentary: "I am powerful, I am beautiful, I am free."

Robbie Williams receives his second Bambi

Robbie Williams already has one success to his name: On November 17, he will be presented with a Bambi at Berlin's Theater am Potsdamer Platz and open the award gala at the same time. In 2013, he already received a golden deer in the "Entertainment" category, this time he will be honored in the "Music International" category.

Robbie Williams will go on a major tour next year. The concert dates for the UK and Europe will be announced next Monday and tickets will go on sale to the public on November 11. Williams announced this on his website. One thing is clear: this will be a "heavy entertainment show".
