Andrea Berg is one of the most successful singers in the German pop world. On the road with her songs since the 1990s, the pop singer has won numerous music awards and broken records with her singles, albums and tours. In addition to her music, Andrea Berg is also known for her brilliant stage programme.
Andrea Berg was born Andrea Zellen on 28 January 1966 in Krefeld. Her musical talent was already evident during her school years. At carnival, she danced enthusiastically as a "Funkenmariechen" and proved at a young age that she felt comfortable in front of an audience - and knew how to captivate her audience.
From nurse to pop hopeful
Before it was even thought that Andrea Berg would one day be one of Germany's best-known pop singers, she first worked as a doctor's assistant and later as a nurse in an intensive care unit. But Andrea Berg already firmly believes in her music career and diligently tinkers with her own songs alongside her job.
The first to find out that Andrea Berg has what it takes to become a star is music producer Eugen Römer. He received a demo tape of the still unknown artist and was immediately taken by her voice and charisma. Without further ado, Andrea Berg is invited to his studio. The two produce their first album together, "Du bist frei", which contains hit singles like "Kilimanjaro" and "Schau mir noch mal ins Gesicht". Their debut is well received by Schlager fans, but the big success is still a long time coming.
The big breakthrough
With the second album, called "Gefühle", Andrea Berg achieves her commercial breakthrough - and she enters the big Schlager stages of Germany. The song "Die Gefühle haben Schweigepflicht" becomes one of Andrea Berg's biggest hits.
But the album scores with even more musical treats: Fans also love the soulful Schlager ballads "Wenn du mich willst, dann küss' mich doch" and "Einmal nur mit dir allein sein". The album also makes it into the Top 10 in Austria, and the pop singer finally gets to fulfil her childhood dream: Andrea Berg goes on tour.
More albums follow at the end of the 1990s. "Dreams Don't Lie", "Between a Thousand Feelings" and "Because I'm in Love" all reach chart positions and contain successful single releases. Her concerts: completely sold out! Tickets for Andrea Berg shows become a hot commodity among Schlager fans.
In her private life, too, nothing stands in the way of her happiness: in 1998 Andrea Berg gives birth to her daughter Lena-Maria.
Best-of album breaks all records
To the delight of her fans, Andrea Berg releases a best-of album with twelve of her most successful songs after the turn of the millennium. The album not only goes five times platinum, but is in the German album charts for almost seven years - until the beginning of 2008 - and sells over two million copies. That means double platinum for Andrea Berg. Chapeau!
Overwhelmed by awards and prizes
Professionally, things are going well for Andrea Berg: her groundbreaking successes are honoured several times with the Echo music award in the category "German-language Schlager". She also receives the Goldene Stimmgabel from 2002 to 2007 and the Amadeus Austrian Music Award for the best Schlager album every year from 2004 to 2005.
Her fans love Andrea Berg for staying grounded despite her gigantic success. In 2007, she married hotelier Ulrich Ferber and ran a small hotel with him in Kleinaspach, Baden-Württemberg. Apart from the big shows, Andrea Berg is also involved in hospice work and is awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon by the then Federal President Horst Köhler himself.
20th and 25th stage anniversary: Andrea Berg on tour
For her 20th stage anniversary, Andrea Berg goes on tour with a big anniversary show. For two studio albums, the Schlager icon is also working together with pop titan Dieter Bohlen and a little later she is allowed to take her place as a guest judge in the RTL casting show "Deutschland sucht den Superstar". Andrea Berg celebrated her 25th stage anniversary with live shows in front of thousands of fans and the album "25 Jahre Abenteuer Leben".
Whether it was an album, a single release or live shows: Andrea Berg's success never stopped. Her subsequent albums all reach a first place in the German, Austrian and partly also in the Swiss charts. There are only a few German artists who are as successful as Andrea Berg.
