If you want to go wild at a live concert, Electric Callboy are highly recommended. The sextet, which operated under the name Eskimo Callboy until 2022, heats up the audience with trancecore bangers like "Hypa Hypa", "We Got the Moves", "Pump It" or "Spaceman". The mixture of hard metal sounds and pumping techno beats is hard to resist. The whole thing is just a hell of a lot of fun - especially live. The album "The Scene - Live in Cologne" from 2018 gives an impressive impression of this. But also the regular albums of Electric Callboy (at the time of the release still Eskimo Callboy) like "Crystals", "Rehab" or the "MMXX" EP put the inclined listener in an instant party mood.
Fitting to the music, the fun factor is also in the foreground in the lyrics. In general, Nico Sallach (vocals since 2020), Kevin Ratajczak (keyboards and vocals), Pascal Schillo, Daniel Haniß (both guitar), Daniel Klossek (bass) and David Friedrich (drums) don't take themselves and their music too seriously. They simply do what they feel like doing, whether in their weird songs or the wonderfully wacky music videos. And they consistently collaborate with whoever they want and don't care what anyone might think of it. An example of this is the single "Best Day", on which Electric Callboy make common cause with Sido. Among the many versions of "Hypa Hypa" there are also some unusual feature artists. The Castrop-Rauxel-based band recorded their party hit with Sasha, Saltatio Mortis, Gestört aber GeiL, The BossHoss and the 257ers, among others. The versions with Axel One and We Butter the Bread with Butter are more genre-related. But the mixing of different musical styles is precisely the concept of Electric Callboy - and it works wonderfully, as the sales and streaming figures clearly prove.
Electric Callboy conquer the world
When the band started out in 2010 under the name Eskimo Callboy - at that time still with drummer Michael Malitzki and singer Sebastian "Sushi" Biesler - their metalcore party train quickly picked up speed. The boys released their first self-titled and self-distributed EP in their founding year. Two years later, the debut album "Bury Me in Vegas" crystallises the metal-electro style that is to become the trademark of the five-piece. And it is precisely this style that goes down well - the follow-up album "We Are the Mess" reaches the Top 10 of the German album charts in 2014. At this point, Michael Malitzki has already passed on the drumsticks to David Friedrich. The latter might look familiar to attentive reality TV viewers from the "Bachelorette" season 2017 as well as the "Jungle Camp" 2018. Within the metal scene, in which Eskimo and Electric Callboy are to be located despite their mix of styles, they grew into a worldwide phenomenon - in Wacken they brought the crowd to a frenzy just as much as in Japan.
Since then, the hype around Electric Callboy has not ceased. After "Crystals" and "The Scene", the electro parts take up a bit more space on "Rehab" (2019) and the 2020 "MMXX" EP, with which the music of the fun troupe fully lives up to the definition of trancecore. Whether the departure of singer Sebastian Biesler in 2020 has anything to do with this development? What is certain is that his successor "Nitro Nico" does a flawless job, as he already proved beyond doubt on "Hypa Hypa", the first single with him on the mic. The new band name Electric Callboy also fits like a glove. 2022 not only brings the Callboys a new name, no, they also launch their own festival: the Escalation Fest. The Electric Callboys are on their way to conquer the world - and always good for a surprise. In this sense: "Hypa Hypa"!
